Did You Know?

Plum pudding has never contained plums. Plum pudding is a steamed or boiled pudding frequently served at holiday times. The name Christmas pudding is first recorded in 1858 in a novel by Anthony Trollope.

Traditionally in England, small silver charms were baked in the plum pudding. A silver coin would bring wealth in the coming year; a tiny wishbone, good luck; a silver thimble, thrift; an anchor, safe harbour.

By Victorian times, only the silver coin remained. In England these tiny charms can still be bought by families who make their own puddings.

It is also traditional for every one who lives in the household to simultaneously hold onto the wooden spoon, help stir the batter for the pudding, and make a wish.

Are the puddings suitable for vegetarians?

Yes, but not vegans as they contain milk and eggs.

I have a food allergy/intolerance. Can I eat your plum puddings?

This product contains wheat, soy, milk and egg and may contain traces of sesame seeds and tree nuts.

Can they be microwaved?

No problem. Rotary Plum Puddings are fully cooked and only require reheating - and they can be very quickly microwaved. They can also be traditionally steamed to reheat. Purists insist that steaming is better for plum puddings, but as ours is designed to be light in colour and flavour, a short reheat in the microwave works very well. They are delicious at room temperature too - great with tea or coffee.

What is the shelf life?

They will always last at least two Christmases after you buy them. During this time they just get better.

How do I store them, can I freeze them?

Rotary Plum Puddings require cool and dry storage. However, if your only storage option is a pantry cupboard, then freezing may be a good idea.  To freeze, remove the pudding from the can and seal in a plastic bag. Store in an upright position in your freezer.
